South Carolina Concealed Weapons Program [CWP]

Holster Draw Red Background_edited_edite

The South Carolina CWP course requires students to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely carry and use a concealed firearm ethnically, responsibly, and with confidence. The student must prove an understanding of South Carolina Concealed Carry Law and the firearm proficiency required should they be required to use a firearm for self-defense.

The CWP course consists of two parts:
Part 1, students learn South Carolina CWP rules and laws in a classroom setting.
Part 2 requires the student to demonstrate firearm safety and handgun management skills from the holster on the range.

The student is required to bring the handgun they plan to use for concealed carry, a quality belt capable of carrying the firearm, a proper holster and a magazine(s), a quality strong side hip holster (outside or inside the waistband) made from quality leather or Kydex that covers the trigger and guard, 100 rounds of factory ammunition, eyes and ear protection, and appropriate seasonal clothing.

A written examination is conducted after the training. Successful attendees receive the necessary signed paperwork required to finalize their application submission to SLED.

The student provides electronic fingerprinting  (http://cmsadmin.identogo.com) and passport photos along with their application and successful course completion documentation to SLED. The concealed weapons permit (CWP) is issued by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
