This course teaches students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home. This course is for adults who may legally possess a firearm, are of good repute, and possess essential defensive pistol-handling skills. Participants learn the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms for self-defense and know and observe general gun safety rules and those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Students are taught the legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in a self-defense situation and are taught not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations.

Course Prerequisite - Prospective students must demonstrate essential firearms competence by providing either evidence of their successful completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Course or by passing the NRA pre-course evaluation.
